Vitamin B

Vitamin B refers to a group of water-soluble vitamins that play important roles in cell metabolism and overall health. This group includes eight distinct vitamins, often referred to as B-complex vitamins:

  • Vitamin B1 (Thiamine): Helps convert nutrients into energy and supports nerve function.

  • Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin): Important for energy production and skin and eye health.

  • Vitamin B3 (Niacin): Vital for digestive system, skin health, and converting food into energy.

  • Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid): Necessary for synthesizing coenzyme A, important in fatty acid metabolism.

  • Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine): Supports brain development and function, and helps the body convert food into energy.

  • Vitamin B7 (Biotin): Plays a role in the health of hair, skin, and nails.

  • Vitamin B9 (Folate or Folic Acid): Essential for DNA synthesis and during pregnancy for fetal development.

  • Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin): Critical for nerve tissue health, brain function, and red blood cell production.

These vitamins are found in a wide variety of foods such as whole grains, meat, eggs, dairy products, legumes, seeds, and leafy green vegetables. Deficiencies can lead to symptoms like fatigue, anemia, nerve damage, and other health issues. Supplementation may be necessary in cases of certain medical conditions, dietary restrictions, or increased nutritional needs.
